A ceasefire agreement has been reached between Thailand and Cambodia following five days of intense cross-border conflict the worst escalation in over a decade. The clashes, which resulted in at least 34 fatalities, have significantly impacted the regional tourism sector, causing widespread tour cancellations and travel disruptions in eastern Thailand and western Cambodia.
The truce, set to begin at midnight on Monday, was brokered during emergency talks in Malaysia. The negotiations were hosted by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the current ASEAN chair, and included Thai acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet. Observers from the United States and China were also present during the discussions.
