Takua Pa Old City to The Sustainable Ways of Ko Yao, Phang- Na Route

Proposed Program

Day 1

Shrine of the Deity

We start on the route by touring around Takua Pa Old City, about 7 kilometres from Amphoe Takua Pa. In the past, this area was an important source of cardamom, which attracted traders from India, Persia, China, Britain, Australia and Holland. Many Chinese married local women, and their male children were called by the honorific title of ‘Baba’, while the females were known as ‘Nyonya.’ Presently, it is estimated that over 90% of Takua Pa residents are Baba descendants. The area was also once rich in mineral resources, namely tin and lead, and Takua Pa became a mining capital.

Day 2

Kayaking in the Mangrove Forests

Today’s first activity is kayaking through the mangrove forests with a local guide. The thick shrubs and trees make many natural tunnels through which to paddle. At the same time as getting some exercise and enjoying the natural surroundings, we are able to learn some local wisdom by using a ‘crab trap,’ a simple method to catch black crabs. We reach Khlong Tha Din Daeng, a waterway flowing to the Andaman Sea. Before returning, we stop at a fish enclosure where bait is used by villagers to put on a fish show for visitors. The stars of this show are sea bass, groupers, large oysters, and puffer fish

Day 3

Fishing Communities

Up early, we can catch first rays of light shining over a myriad of islands off the coast of Krabi from a vantage point called Hat Laem Baek

Day 4

Hat Pa Sai

We start this morning at Hat Pa Sai, a beautiful stretch of sandy beach, famous for its sea almond trees decorated with cloth bands as notification that they are the homes of hornbills. More than 200 hornbills live on the island

Explore the Self-Sufficient Way of Life and Discover Untold Stories of the River of History Route

Proposed Program

Day 1

Rom Hup (Folding Umbrella) Market

Our first destination is the Rom Hup (Folding Umbrella) Market, a one-of-a-kind market that is literally set on the railway track near Mae Klong Station. You can witness this unique market either from the train or by roaming the market till a train approaches. You will then see the vendors in a mad rush that looks completely chaotic but is an efficient process practised over many years.

Day 2

Bang Noi Floating Market

When a pale sun rises over the horizon, people in canal-based communities gather at the piers, waiting to offer food to the monks who cruise down this waterway. If you have a chance to stay by the canal, this is a morning merit-making activity you should not miss.

Day 3

Hellfire Pass Memorial Museum

Begin the new day by biking to the hanging bridge, 10 minutes away from the resort, and witness an impressive sunrise at Ban Hat Ngio. After breakfast, it is time to head to the Hellfire Pass Memorial Museum, located in the Hellfire Pass area.

Day 4

Song Phi Nong Khao Lam Shop

Day 4 starts early—at 5 o’clock—for tourists to join the locals in their alms-giving. The local practice involves putting tiny balls of steamed glutinous rice into the monk’s alms-bowls – no other food or money. Alms-givers must be neatly dressed during the event. Other items of food are later presented by the people at the temple after the morning alms-rounds.

Enjoy an Eco-friendly Journey, Experience a Community’s Way of Life

Sukhothai province is located in the lower northern region area of Thailand. It was once the centre of an empire, which reached its peak more than seven centuries ago. Most of the area is lowland, with the Yom River flowing through it from north to south. Stone inscriptions from the time of King Ramkhamhaeng the Great imply that the local people were mainly engaged in diverse agricultural practices, and enjoyed plenty of fish in the water and rice in the fields, earning it the name of Sukhothai, the ‘Dawn of Happiness.’

Proposed Program

Day 1

Wat Phra Phai Luang and Wat Si Chum

Start the visit to Sukhothai province by familiarising yourself with the city at the Sukhothai Historical Park. Almost all historical sites here face East and the soft morning sun projects its golden rays over ancient bricks, turning them into beautiful glowing light brown structures.

Day 2

Si Satchanalai Historical Park

From the royal capital of Sukhothai, we travel to Si Satchanalai, the city of the viceroy or the princely city, also known as Twin Cities and Si Satchanalai Sukhothai as stated on stone inscriptions. The city prospered alongside Sukhothai, famous for the production of Sangkhalok ceramics as shown by groups of Thuriang kilns, an ancient Sangkhalok kiln site along the bank of the Yom River in Ban Ko Noi, Amphoe Si Satchanalai

Day 3

Organic Agriculture Project at Sukhothai Airport

This morning presents the opportunity to become farm hand trainees at the Organic Agriculture Project at Sukhothai Airport. The day starts with donning traditional farming indigo clothes and a ride on a modified farm tractor to view and take part in the activities of the Outdoor Classroom. Officials provide lectures on organic agriculture in a hall complete with exhibits of the origin of the project and displays of rice varieties developed by the project.
